Here’s the Perfect Technique way to film your pitching, hitting, quarterback or tennis video.

How to film for pitching analysis
In order to get a complete analysis, please follow these steps:
  1. Film from the side
  2. Film from behind
  3. Film the pitcher in front only if the pitcher is high school-age or older and you want to see the hand angle on breaking pitches—place the camera about 25 feet away from the pitcher and low to the ground and have the pitcher throw over the camera to the catcher.
  4. Three or four pitches from each angle are all that are needed.

We are not responsible if you get hit by a thrown or batted ball, so please be careful.

For optimum results, send us three pitches from each position. Use a tripod or hold the camera still to insure a clear and stable video.

Video from the side

  • Film the face (front side) of the pitcher.
  • Film from the beginning stance to the follow through.
  • Get as close as you can yet still get the entire motion in the frame start to finish.
  • Don't worry about following the ball; just focus on getting the pitcher.
  • Depending on the athlete’s age or program level, baseball pitchers should be filmed from both the windup and stretch positions.

Video from behind

  • Make sure that you are directly behind the pitcher.
  • Film from the beginning stance to the follow through.
  • Make sure the entire image is in the frame; get as close as you can yet still get the entire motion in the shot.

How to film for hitting analysis
Three or four swings from each of the following angles are all that are needed.

Video from the side

  • Film the face (front side) of the hitter.
  • Get as close as you can while maintaining the entire swing in the frame.
  • Do not follow the ball; keep the camera on the hitter.
  • Have the camera perpendicular to the hitter.

Video from the front of the hitter or directly behind the hitter

  • If you film from the front, hit Wiffle balls or tennis balls to protect the pitcher and the camera.
  • Get as close as you can while maintaining the entire swing in the frame.
  • Do not follow the ball; keep the camera on the hitter.
  • Have the camera right in front but low—the pitcher can throw over the camera to the hitter.

Quarterbacks
In order to get a complete analysis, please follow these steps.

  1. Film from the side
  2. Film from behind
  3. Capture a 3-step drop and 5-step drop, with sprint out if desired. One throw to the right, two to the middle, and one to the left at each position.

Filming a QB from the side

  • Film the face (front side) of the QB.
  • Film from the beginning stance to the follow through.
  • Get as close as you can yet still get the entire motion in the frame start to finish.
  • Don't worry about following the ball; just focus on getting the QB's motion.

Filming a QB from behind

  • Make sure you are directly behind the QB.
  • Film from the beginning stance to the follow through.
  • Make sure the entire image is in the frame, get as close as you can yet still get the entire motion in the shot.

We are not responsible if you get hit by a thrown ball, so please be careful.

Use a tripod or hold the camera still to insure a clear and stable video.

Offensive linemen

For analysis of offensive linemen, isolated game film works best.

How to film for tennis analysis

Three or four serves/strokes from each of the following angles are all that are needed to analyze serves and ground strokes.

Service:
Video from the side:

  • Film the open (racquet arm side) of the server.
  • Position the camera perpendicular to the server and just outside the court, enough to capture the entire toss and serve in the frame.

Video from directly behind the server:

  • Position the camera far enough behind the server to capture the entire toss and serve in the frame.

Groundstrokes:

  • Film groundstrokes from both the front and the side, being sure to capture the ball approach and stroke at each angle
  • For the side angle, film from the open, racquet arm side
  • Three or four repetitions each of a forehand and backhand shot from the front and the side are all that are needed.
  • On each shot, capture
    a) the initial stance prior to the incoming ball crossing the net,
    b) the approach racquet preparation and
    c) the finish.
